So, you’ve just developed (or hired a professional to create it!) your impactful,
accomplishments-based resume. Is your LinkedIn address included? If not, why? Think
about it. You want to be found, right? This is a perfect spot for it for
several reasons. One, you make it easier for
employers/recruiting managers/recruiters to access more information about you
than you’ve presented on your resume.
Secondly, your LinkedIn profile contains far more information than you
can possibly include on your resume, and, if you’ve constructed it well, should
give the reader a much better glimpse of your
personality- your potential fit for the position – and what value you bring.
Thirdly, employers who read your resume will automatically try to find
you on LinkedIn, Twitter, or other social media sites AND discern if a) you’re
the same person-your information matches, b) there’s no “red flags” there, and
c) your “character defining photo” aligns with your information.
Of course, this requires that you’ve developed an impactful LinkedIn profile prior to
sending out your resume. The same idea applies in reverse, too: prior to
publishing changes to your profile, you must have your impactful,
accomplishments-based resume ready. They work in tandem, and your reader needs
both.
Be courteous and make it easy for your resume reader to
access your profile quickly. Employers
and recruiters are very busy people.
They don’t have the time or inclination to find you on LinkedIn later. Later is NOW.
